Questions
Before reading:
Ask: What does being kind mean to you? How do you feel when someone is kind to you? Let's read this book to learn ways to show kindness.
After reading:
Ask: Can you think of other ways we can show kindness? Make a list of their ideas.
Activities
Act it out: Have children act out the acts of kindness in the book as well as their own ideas.
Write it: Make a classbook Acts of Kindness book illustrated by the children. On each page show someone in the class being kind to someone.
Spread kindness: Have students make cards, write letter, make bookmarks, or draw pictures for people in nursing homes or hospitals. Visit a nursing home and have children read to residents or have residents read to the chidlren.
Catch it: Have children watch for acts of kindness and when they see it, have a special reaction - like a thumbs up or a special clap or a tap on the shoulder and a smile.
